Santorini

Whitewashed Dreams Above the Aegean Caldera

Best Time: Apr – Jun, Sep – Oct 5–7 Days Euro (€) Schengen Visa Required

The Most Beautiful Sunset on Earth

Santorini is a place that exists at the intersection of myth and reality. Formed by one of the largest volcanic eruptions in human history, this crescent-shaped island in the Aegean Sea offers a landscape of extraordinary drama — sheer caldera cliffs dropping 300 metres to the sea, whitewashed villages clinging to the rim, and sunsets that have been called the most beautiful in the world.

The island's two main villages — Oia and Fira — are architectural masterpieces of Cycladic design: labyrinthine lanes of white cubic houses, blue-domed churches, and infinity pools that seem to merge with the sea. Every corner is a photograph waiting to be taken.

Beyond the iconic views, Santorini offers excellent wine (grown in volcanic soil), superb seafood, ancient ruins at Akrotiri, and some of Greece's most dramatic beaches — black, red and white volcanic sand.

Indians need a Schengen visa. Apply at the Greek consulate 3–4 weeks in advance. Cost approx. ₹7,000.

Getting Around

Sunset Tip

Arrive at Oia castle 2 hours before sunset to secure a good spot. Alternatively, watch from Imerovigli or a caldera-view restaurant.

Money Tips

Santorini is expensive. Budget ₹8,000–15,000/day. Eat at local tavernas away from the caldera for better value.
